These are some of our favorite movies period. But they’re also wonderful movies about friendship and the importance of having good people in your life.

1. Booksmart (2019)

This is a coming-of-age buddy comedy that follows two best friends on the eve of their high school graduation. Be prepared to laugh out loud, this movie is hilarious and touching all at the same time.

2. Pitch Perfect (2012)

Pitch Perfect follows Beca, a freshman in college, joining an all-girls singing group as they take on a rival group. There are some truly ridiculous moments as well as important lessons in friendship.

3. Girls Trip (2017)

Four, long-time friends travel to New Orleans for a festival and hilarity ensues. Tiffany Hadish had her breakout role in this movie (and you’ll see why). A wonderful movie about loyal friendship, love, and having fun with friends.

4. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)

Four best friends are separated for the summer and they create a plan to share a pair of magical jeans that fit all of them. We see them each face individual challenges and learn the importance of their friendship. This is a super cute movie and very wholesome.

5. Bridesmaids (2011)

This is an ensemble buddy comedy that is absolutely wild. It follows a group of bridesmaids in the lead-up to Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding. Melissa McCarthy plays a memorably eccentric character and Kristen Wiig plays the messy BFF. It’s over-the-top fun and has important friendship moments.

6. Mama Mia! (2008)

A young woman, about to get married, discovers three different men could be her father. This movie is great fun – it’s set on an island in Greece and features ABBA songs. It’s a poignant story of love, family, and friendships while also being a gorgeous musical.

7. Mean Girls (2004)

Perhaps one of the most quotable movies of all time, Mean Girls is the story of a girl starting at a new high school and encountering the queen bees (the Plastics). A very funny teen comedy with important lessons on loyalty and friendship.

8. Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (1997)

This cult-classic comedy follows Romy and Michelle returning to their 10-year high school reunion and trying to appear more impressive than they are. This has a friendship-conquers-all storyline that’s super heartwarming. Romy and Michelle are ridiculously lovable.

9. Clueless (1995)

Clueless is an iconic movie. It’s a truly excellent teen comedy that’s got a little bit of everything – best friends, love interests, family drama. The movie follows Cher, a privileged high school student in Beverly Hills as she navigates her teen life.

10. A League of Their Own (1992)

Set in WWII, this movie follows two sisters as they join the first female professional baseball league. It’s a poignant story of friendship, family, and female empowerment.

11. Steel Magnolias (1989)

Be prepared to sob at a few points in this movie. This movie follows a beautician’s arrival to a small town and the relationships she builds with a group of women. It’s a story of unwavering friendship.

12. Thelma & Louise (1991)

A pair of friends but out of their regular lives and go on a crazy adventure that ends up with them fleeing from the police. This movie is an absolute classic.

13. Dead Poet’s Society (1989)

This classic movie is incredibly inspiring. It follows a group of boarding school students and their teacher who encourages them to go against the status quo. It’s an important story about friendship and standing up for your beliefs.

14. Waiting to Exhale (1995)

This movie follows the lives of four friends as they navigate love and relationships. It’s a touching story with moments of laughter and tears.

15. Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

A buddy comedy that follows two young women’s dreams of being professional soccer players and their parents’ desires for a different life for them. This movie has loads of great quotable moments and is a great movie for BFFs.

16. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002)

This movie follows a fight between a young woman and her mother, till her mother’s friends ‘kidnap’ her and bring her back home to the South. It’s a poignant movie about reconciliations, family, and the power of friendships.
