Sunday Night Self Care Routine

Sunday night can be rough. You have to go back to work tomorrow and you’re dreading it.

One great way of banishing those blues is to turn it into a self-care night.

Personally, I now look forward to Sunday nights because I carve out a time to really take care of myself. Here are a bunch of ways to create a Sunday night self-care routine.

Make a nice dinner

Spending a little time in the kitchen to make sure you end the weekend with a nutritious, filling meal is a great way to close the weekend.

Cooking can reduce stress – all the chopping, dicing, simmering, and sauteéing can be therapeutic. It helps you to slow down – it’s the perfect start to a Sunday night self-care routine.

Read a great book

Instead of spending time on your phone or computer, pick up a book you’ve always wanted to read.

It’s relaxing plus it helps you avoid the blue screen on electronics that affect sleep.

Listen to a podcast

There are so many wonderful, relaxing podcasts that can be inspirational but also calming.

My two favorite podcasts are SuperSoul Conversations (Oprah interviews guests about the deeper meaning of the world) and Happier with Gretchen Rubin (simple, actionable tips on being happier)

Make it a Spa Day

Stock up on bath bombs, sheet masks, hair masks, and salt scrubs. You can even DIY most spa products!

Take some time and have a relaxing bubble bath while wearing a sheet mask. You’ll feel like a new human!

Foam Roll

One of the best ways to relax tight muscles (besides a professional massage!) is to foam roll.

Here’s a fabulous tutorial on foam rolling. Foam rolling will help loosen muscles you didn’t even know you had.

Remember to foam roll slowly and don’t use the foam roller on your lower back. Take deep breaths when you foam roll and let yourself relax.

Meditate

Whether you prefer to sit in silence or listen to a guided practice, taking some time to meditate will reduce your stress and encourage self-awareness and happiness.

Having a regular meditation practice is incredibly helpful, but sneaking in an extra session on Sunday night is very calming.

Set some intentions for the week

Either write down or speak aloud a few intentions for the week. I find ones like “I will approach everything with kindness” or “I am infinitely creative and ready to solve problems” encouraging.

Hopefully, these tips will help you establish a Sunday night self-care routine. If you have any other favorite ways to relax on Sunday night, please share them in the comments.
